Travel photography: Havana 2013

I am literally addicted to Havana! This was our third year, back again with Suzanne and also Pam and Lou came along for the madness too.
After 2 years in hotels we decided to live the Cuban life and stay in a casa… why have we never done this before?
We stayed in Casa Ana Julia in the FOCSA building, 21stfloor, overlooking the Malecon. Our only problem with it was that we didn’t own it and permanently live there!

This year we did 12 days, arranged our dance classes through 2 different schools (3 classes at each) Sprachcaffe in Miramar and Salsa Ritmo Dance in Vedado. Each class was 90 minutes long and at both schools you each have your own teacher, 1 on 1 learning. We focused our classes on Salsa, finishing the end of the classes with Rueda but you can have the option to learn other forms of dance such as Orishas, Rumba and Reggaeton.
During the day we kept things very simple, lots of pootling around old Havana, walks along the Malecon, day trip to the beach, long leisurely drinks sampling daiquiris, long lunches, rumba shows at Callejon de Hamel and of course the markets… I HEART MARKETS! The perfect way to experience a piece of life in Havana.
At night we were lucky enough to see some great bands again this year including Havana D’Primera, Charanga Habanera and Elito Reve y su Charangon. As well as going to the usual dance spots like 1830, Casa de la Musica Centro and Miramar, Hotel Florida we also got chance to experience lots of Cuban discos with a great mix of music… Outnumbered by amazing Cuban teacher & friends = soooooooooooooo many giggles!
A perfect mix of a dance and relaxation holiday… Thank you Habana!
Here are a few photos from our time there… Can’t wait to go back 🙂
